When one mentions Australia, Gold Coast is definitely one in the topic. It is as popular as the Sydney Opera House or the kangaroos among tourists. The booming tourism industry makes it a metropolitan city with towering skyscrapers and expensive waterfront homes for the rich and famous. The Q1 building is towering at 320ft and claimed to be the tallest residential building in the world. Along this 60km Gold Coast stretch, Surfers Paradise is the more popular spot among tourists with Japanese and Middle Easters making the bulk of it. I was late to the beach due to shoppings in Brisbane so I couldn't see much daylight activities on the beach. By nightfall, this area turns into a nightlife entertainment hot spot. Young and hot local party chicks turn out in droves to party till morning. Families wishing a more peaceful environment head down to the night flea market along the beach. Shoppers will be delighted with many designer shops opening till late hours. For asians, I bet most of them are trapped inside the casino. The night view from the waterfront homes overlooking the city is just breathtaking. So peaceful and wonderful sight; a bright moon, a million stars, and a thousand more "stars" on the ground, making one perfect masterpiece art of mother nature on the water reflection. If I have the opportunity to stay here, I guess my life span expands 10 years.
An hour drive to the city in a Ford Falcon XR6 was a sheer pleasure. Sunnybank was the first stop for lunch. This suburb is an asian town itself. I have never seen so many asians in a place before. For once I thought I'm back in Singapore. Had a heartful hainanese chicken rice lunch which I must say better than the ones back home. A quick groceries shopping in asian marts there before heading down to South Banks to check out the man-made beach by the river, overlooking the city. Later part of the afternoon was spent shopping in Queen Street Mall; few streets being converted into a walking promenade with shops lining up on both sides. Had a quick peek inside the Treasury Casino. I won $20! A visit to a foreign city for me is never complete without checking out the Chinatown. The proper Chinatown is located at Fortitude Valley which I come to know was filmed in a Jackie Chan's movie. A day is certainly too short for me to fully explore the city. I'll definitely return soon to check out the hilltop city view and some nice coffee joints.
I was so busy for the past month leading up to my base check in the simulator last week. I hardly have time for my leisure activities. When one completes the base check, he joins the gold wing club; so my roommate said. I'd rather say the mile high club, minus the hanky pankies. Time to fly the real thing up in the sky. It's a totally new ball game. One and a half more months to go...the countdown begins.
Here I am, blogging on a lazy sunny Sunday; from Mudjimba, Maroochydore. I just got here 2 weeks ago to start my 3 month advanced jet training. Flying the sleek executive business jet (Learjet 45) is everyone's dream but not all can realise that dream. I'm grateful my dream is a reality now. (Pictures courtesy of KH)
Maroochydore lies about 100km north of Brisbane. In this boring little town, life is very simple. Not particular great for a restless youngster like me. Everyone goes fishing or lawn bowling; but definitely not my cup of tea. Only consolation to my misery is the beach. But then again, the sun sets over the land and not the ocean. Not a great view either.
I stay by the stagnant river. No fish to catch here. But many ducks to feed. Eating out is expensive and I cook most of the time. My dishes are not mouth watering but will definitely improve by the time I leave this place. Nothing much to do indoor except cooking, watching TV, playing DOTA and study up a bit for the next flight. Oh, and there's a big cockpit picture of the jet in my house. That's where I normally sit down with my buddy to practice on our flights.
Perhaps the proudest moment for any parents, is to see their son on the stage to receive the scroll. What more, this is not any ordinary scroll. This is my Commercial Pilot License scroll; earned from 2 years of hardwork, sweat and A LOT of sacrifices. Thanks to my parents' relentless support and understanding; for I am being able to be on the stage that day.
I am sad to learn that our beloved "ah girl" had passed away on 21st May 2008. It is tragic that she died not from her old age, but was run over.
"ah girl" has been living in my house and accompanied me throughout my stay in Seletar. While some of the mates chased her out from their houses, sometimes I did let her in to sleep on the couch during cold and rainy days. She would be running around trying to get affections and pettings. When I was stressed up and buried in my ATPL books, she would come once in a while to break me free from the stress. Sometimes she would also be mischievous and comes into my room to disturb my sleep in the night. She would just lay her head on the bed.
Malaysia today is in a mess after more than 50 years of racial dividing policies. Racial cards are played by corrupted politicians, only to keep them in power and enrichen their pockets. As long as Malaysia remains divided, their race based parties will continue to survive and plunder our rich resources. But as a result, Malaysians have become more racist than ever before. We are all being brainwashed by their evil education system and sowed hatred by fake media propagandas.
Amidst the darkness, there are some who stood and fought for the better of us. No matter how small their flames and how harsh the government weathered on them, they kept fighting to protect that precious flame and kept it shining. The people have spoken in the recent election. We managed to prove that we have the power to fight back after years of corruptions and injustice. The flame was lit and we should protect it together. We should be united and create a better future for all of us. Malaysia belongs to all of us. We are all born here, we sweat and contribute equally to our beloved country. There should not be a single soul out there being labelled based on his skin color. This should be a Malaysian Malaysia. I yearn for a day where I can return home and proudly call myself a Malaysian.
So fellow Malaysians, lets work hard together for that day. If you're on "crutches", throw them away. There are more poor souls out there that need it more than we use it to live comfortably and selfishly on our own. You have all the other Malaysians to support and walk with you. Let us draw some inspiration from the videos below.
